Royal House Petrović Njegoš

About two draft projects of statutes established in 2004 for the Orders of Danilo I and Saint Petar of Cetinje

By Pierre Olivier Leroy (POLN), January 25, 2005, Paris, France

Independence Order of Danilo I & Order of Saint Petar of Cetinje

In the mid-2004, when started to be formally evoked the re-establishment of the Royal House Orders of Montenegro, The Njegoskij Fund worked on two draft projects of statutes, respectively for:
1.— The Independence Order of Danilo I; and
2.— The Order of Saint Petar of Cetinje.

On the Independence Order of Danilo I (Orden Danila I. za Nezavisnost), our work was based on archives in our family fund and was conducted in the respect of the Francophile spirit of Sovereign Prince then King Nikola I Petrovitch Njegosh of Montenegro (º1841, †1921) when he amended the original statutes of the Order in 1861, 1873, 1893 and finally in 1913 using as model the French Order of the Legion of Honour, established on May 19, 1802 by Napoléon Bonaparte, First Consul of the First Republic in France.

Our work on the Order of Saint Petar of Cetinje (Orden Sveti Petar Cetinjski), is a complete creation since, to our known, Sovereign Prince then King Nikola I never enacted any statutes, nor organised the Order.

Our two draft projects remain COMPLETLY UNOFFICIAL (only those enacted on November 11, 2004 by H.R.H. Crown Prince Nicolas Petrovitch Njegosh are valid), and are only published here to show to our readers in which spirit works The Njegoskij Fund, and to current members of the Order of Danilo I, to provide them with a basis for reflection on how a Dynastic Order may be ruled as a National Order...
