His Royal Highness Crown Prince Nicolas Petrovitch Njegosh of Montenegro As Head of House, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Nicolas Petrovitch Njegosh of Montenegro is Hereditary Grand Master of:
1.— The Independence Order of Danilo I (Orden Danila I. za Nezavisnost), former State Order of Merit instituted on St. George’s Day April 23/May 5, 1852, which became de facto dynastic after 1919;
2.— The Order of Saint Petar of Cetinje (Orden Sveti Petar Cetinjski), family Order of Merit instituted in 1869/1871; and

First Montenegrin State Order of Merit instituted in 1852 and become de facto dynastic since 1919 [1], the Independence Order of Danilo I (DO) is the prerogative of the only Head of the Royal House of Montenegro. Independence Order of Danilo I
On November 11, 2004 in Cetinje, Montenegro, as part of his family patrimony, H.R.H. Crown Prince Nicolas Petrovitch Njegosh, Hereditary Grand Master, revived and reformed the ancient Order, keeping the organisation of 1873 in five classes, but renaming them into Grand Cross (GCDO), Knight Commander (KCDO), Knight (KDO), Lieutenant (LDO) and Member (MDO).
Most of the 1873 original articles were just rewrited to put them in accordance with the modern status of the Royal House of Montenegro. Among the differences, there are notably the wear of a Collar — specific distinction of both the Grand Master and the Grand Chancellor (during its lifetime until the appointment of a successor) — and the dividing of the Grand Cross class in four grades: GCDO Diamond Star, GCDO Gold Star, GCDO Silver Star and GCDO.
The Order, conferred upon Grand Master own initiative or on recommendation of his Officers, rewards services rendered to Montenegro or to its Royal Family, as well as to the whole humanity.
The Order of Danilo I is registered in Montenegro as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). Revised statutes of the Order have been enacted on April 23/May 5, 2005.
