As part of the preparation of the Centenary Commemorations of the 1908’ Sicilian Earthquake, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Nicolas Petrovitch Njegosh will be on official visit in the autonomous region of Sicily, Italy from June 22 to 24, 2007.
On June 22, Prince Nicolas will meet in Palermo the President of the Region of Sicily, Mr. Salvatore Cuffaro, and the President of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, Mr. Gianfranco Miccichè.
An official cerenomy will be held at 06:30pm in the reception room of the Palazzo d’Orléans during which Prince Nicolas will confer the insignia of Grand Cross in the Order of Danilo I to the Gonfanon of the Sicilian Region. His agenda in Palermo also includes an encounter with members of the Regional Committee of the Italian Red Cross.
On June 23, the Prince will meet in Agrigento at 05:00pm Mr. Marco Zambuto, Mayor of the city, and at 06:00pm Mr. Vincenzo Antonio Fontana, President of the Province. On the occasion of his stay in Agrigento, Prince Nicolas will be made Honorary Citizen of the city, and will invest Messrs. Marco Zambuto and Vincenzo Fontana with the insignias of the Order of Danilo I.
The Prince will subsequently visit the archeological area of Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples, as well as the house where was born famous Italian writer Luigi Pirandello (º1867, †1936), Nobel Prize laureate in Literature in 1934.
An official diner, offered by the President of the Province, is also planned at 09:30pm in the garden of the fabulous 4-star Hotel Villa Athena, facing the Temple of Concordia.
The stay of Prince Nicolas in Sicily will end on Sunday June 24 by a visit to Messina where is planned an encounter with city authorities and several ceremonies as part of next year’s Centenary Commemorations, including an homage in front of the statue of Queen Elena of Italy (º1873, †1952), daughter of King Nikola I of Montenegro (º1841, †1921) and aunt of Prince Nicolas’s father, Prince Michael Petrovitch Njegosh (º1908, †1986).
During his official visit in Italy, Prince Nicolas will be accompanied by his elder daughter, H.R.H. Princess Altinaï Petrovitch Njegosh, and by H.E. Mr. Antun Sbutega, Ambassador of Montenegro to the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
