Today, this Monday November 17, 2008, took place at the Fredensborg Palace in North Zealand, North of Copenhagen, Denmark, an official ceremony during which H.E. Mr. Nikola Ciko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Kingdom of Denmark, presented his letters of credence to the Danish Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II.

Her Majesty the Queen, after welcoming H.E. Ambassador Ciko and congratulating him on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in the Kingdom, expressed Her conviction that the accreditation of an Ambassador of Montenegro to Denmark will inject a new momentum into the long-time ties between both countries, for the enhancement of mutual friendship among Danish and Montenegrin peoples, and the reinforcement of bilateral co-operation in all fields.

As for him, H.E. Ambassador Ciko after expressing his great honour to represent Montenegro in the Kingdom of Denmark, praised the traditional good and friendly relations between the two countries, adding that he will work to further improve and promote their overall relationships, in the fields of political co-operation as well as mutual economic development.

Former Counsellor in the Embassy of Serbia and Montenegro (SGC) to Austria, Ambassador Ciko has mainly made career in the tourism sector, before turning to diplomacy. Speaking little Danish, he was in the mid-80’s Director of the National Tourism Organization of Yugoslavia in Copenhagen.
H.E. Mr. Ciko is the first Montenegrin Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark since the recognition of Montenegro’s independence on June 15, 2006, after the country left the State Union with Serbia following the May 21 referendum.
Presently accredited to Denmark as non-resident Ambassador, a full-time Embassy consisting of 4-5 persons will be opened next year, probably after the autumn 2009.
