Message of Mr. Jacques Chirac to the President of the Republic of Montenegro

Letter of Mr. Jacques Chirac, President of the French Republic

Following is the text of the letter addressed by the French President Mr. Jacques Chirac to his Montenegrin counterpart, Mr. Filip Vujanović, after the referendum of May 21, 2006, Paris, May 30:

Paris, May 30, 2006.

Mr. President,

Given the great turnout, which took place in a peaceful and transparent manner at the referendum, the excellent development of which was pointed out by OSCE, the citizens of Montenegro proved to be mature and I welcome it. I take note of their wish to leave the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. Mr. Jacques Chirac, President of the French Republic

I am convinced that you will whole-heartedly take care that the separation process with Serbia takes place by means of a close agreement with it, aiming at good relations maintenance, which should exist between your two States.

I do not doubt that France and Montenegro, which relations are long and friendly, would find the way to strengthen the same as the new page of your nation’s history has been turned.

Please accept, Mr. President, the expression of my most high consideration.

Cordially Yours,

Jacques CHIRAC

Mr. Filip VUJANOVIĆ,
President of the Republic of Montenegro.
