Romanian President Traian Basescu: “Romania fully supports European perspectives of Montenegro”

Today, this Wednesday October 22, 2008 at 06:00pm Eastern European Summer Time, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, H.E. Mr. Milo Đukanović, in two-day official visit to Bucharest, Romania, had a meeting with the Romanian President, H.E. Mr. Traian Băsescu, at the Cotroceni Palace, headquarters of the Presidential Administration.

President Băsescu congratulated Montenegro on progress achieved on the path towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and on facilitating regional co-operation as a means to support the previous two objectives. The Head of State also assured Prime Minister Đukanović that his country will fully support, both on political and technical levels, the European perspectives of Montenegro.

During their meeting, President Băsescu and Prime Minister Đukanović widely discussed recent developments in Western Balkans, in the context of Romania and Montenegro common interest in ensuring the stability and the security throughout the region. Finally, the President of Romania reiterated the importance that his country attaches to compliance with international law, in order to identify solutions leading to long-term regional peace and stability.
