Today, this Wednesday June 11, 2008 at 06:00pm Eastern Time, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Montenegro to the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Nebojša Kaluđerović, joined the 107th Plenary Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly and addressed the High-Level Meeting on “a comprehensive review of the progress achieved in realizing the Declaration of Commitment on HIV and AIDS and the Political Declaration on the pandemic”.

The High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS included plenary sessions in the General Assembly with statements from 158 delegations, including 152 Member States and six observers. The opening session was addressed by the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), a person openly living with HIV and an eminent person actively engaged in the international response.
Five panel discussions addressed the following topics:
“How do we build on results achieved and speed up progress towards
universal access by 2010 — moving on to reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015?”;
“The challenge of providing leadership and political support in countries
with concentrated epidemics”;
“Making the response to AIDS work for women and girls: gender equality
and AIDS”;
“AIDS: a multigenerational challenge — providing a robust and long-term
response”; and
“Resources and universal access: opportunities and limitations”.
In addition, an interactive hearing with civil society focused on the theme “Action
for universal access: myths and realities”.
