19th Annual Crans Montana Forum
From Thursday June 26 to Sunday June 29, 2008,
took place in Monaco, MC, the 19th Annual Crans Montana Forum, which highlighted the geostrategic importance of the Mediterranean to European Union, Central and South Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa and the Middle East.
Placed this year under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, Director General of UNIDO, Mr. Suleiman J. Al-Herbish, Director General of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and Mr. Abdul Rahim Hassan Naqi, Secretary General of the Federation of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s Chambers of Commerce and Industry, this event gathered more than 700 global decision-makers from all over the world, including Heads of State and corporate leaders.
As part of the various discussion forums organised within the global Crans Montana Forum, Mrs. Svetlana Vujanović, First Lady of Montenegro, wife of President Filip Vujanović, was on June 27 the Guests of Honour of the first session of the special forum “Women in the Public Life”.
Dedicated to discuss all topics related with the increasing frequency of women holding key positions in the political and business fields, this session was placed under the co-chairmanship of Mrs. Anne-Marie Lizin, Belgian Senator [1], Mrs. Elizabeth Decrey-Warner, President of Geneva Call [2], and Mrs. Fawzia Al Ashmawi [3], Chairwoman of the European Forum for Muslim Women.
Mrs. Vesna Medenica, President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, also attended this session as member of the discussion panel.

Were also present the Ambassador of Montenegro to France and Monaco, H.E. Prof. Dr. Milica Pejanović-Đurišić, and the Supreme State Prosecutor of Montenegro, Mrs. Ranka Čarapić.
[1] Former member of the European Parliament (1979-1988), Belgian State Secretary for European affairs (1988-1992), President of the Belgian Senate (2004-2007).
[2] Geneva Call is an international humanitarian organization dedicated to engaging armed non-state actors (NSAs) to respect and to adhere to humanitarian norms, starting with the ban on anti-personnel (AP) mines.
Geneva Call is committed to the universal application of the principles of international humanitarian law and conducts its activities based on the principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence.
[3] Dr. Fawzia Al Ashmawi, Egyptian and Swiss, is working since 1979 as lecturer of Arabic language and Islamic civilization at The University of Geneva in Switzerland. She holds PhD in Arabic Literature and Islamic Studies from The University of Geneva in 1983. She is an Egyptian novelist: she has published since 1990 several novels and short stories in Arabic and has also contributed several articles to journals of repute in Egypt, France and Switzerland. She worked as Senior Researcher for European Commission and ISESCO. Her research interests are mainly in the fields of the image of the other and of religions in textbooks, the status of Muslim Women, human Rights, Islam and inter-religious dialogue. She is the founder of the “European Forum for Muslim Women” which arms to promote human rights for Muslim women in European countries.
