On the occasion of his trip to Messina, in the Northeastern corner of Sicily — conclusion of a three-day official visit to this autonomous region of Italy — His Royal Highness Crown Prince Nicolas Petrovitch Njegosh, Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion, upon arrival in the Mamertine city on June 24, 2007 afternoon, had been welcomed off the car by H.E. Count Don Carlo Marullo di Condojanni, Prince of Casalnuovo, former Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta from 1997 to October 2001.

As part of his agenda, between the official receptions at the Palazzo Zanca — headquarters of the Municipality of Messina — and at the headquarters of the Regional Province of Messina, Crown Prince Nicolas paid a friendly visit to the private residence of Count Don Carlo Marullo di Condojanni in Messina, during which they had an half an hour meeting, notably talking about the Holy Icon of Our Lady of Philermos, Patroness of the Knights of Malta, which is presently preserved at the Art Museum of Montenegro (first floor of the Vladin Dom, the former Government House), part of the National Museum of Cetinje, in the country’s old Royal capital.
They also discussed the possibility of collaboration between the Foundation “Donna Maria Marullo di Condojanni” and His Royal Highness concerning conferences to come in the city, in next November, on the seismic risk in the Messina strait zone and on the possibilities of containing disastrous effects of Calabro-Sicilian earthquakes.

After their meeting, H.E. Count Don Carlo Marullo di Condojanni has been invested by the Crown Prince with the insignia of Grand Cross with Gold Star in the Order of Danilo I ; His Royal Highness wishing to reward Count Don Carlo’s international merits and his humanitarian, cultural and editorial commitments in favour of Sicily.

When leaving the residence of his host, Crown Prince Nicolas and Count Don Carlo Marullo di Condojanni mutually wished each other numerous future meetings.

During his visit, His Royal Highness was accompanied by his elder daughter, H.R.H. Princess Altinaï Petrovitch Njegosh, and by H.E. Mr. Antun Sbutega, Ambassador of Montenegro to the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

H.E. Count Don Carlo Marullo di Condojanni, Prince of Casalnuovo, was born on April 18, 1946 in Messina, Sicily, Italy.
Lawyer and university teacher, he wrote many scientific publications on the distribution of national income and on monetary issues. He teaches “Market Analysis” and has also taught “Theory of Portfolio Choices, Economic Data Classification and Analysis, and Mathematical Theory of Financial Portfolio” at the University of Messina. He is also a farm entrepreneur.
He hold the following offices for the Order of Malta : Finance and Budget Minister (Receiver of the Common Treasure), Minister of Post, Ambassador Permanent Observer at the United Nations General Assembly (from October 23, 1996 to April 26, 1998), Minister of the Interior and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Head of the Executive Branch (Grand Chancellor), and Chargé of Special Affairs of the Grand Magistry of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta as “Roving Ambassador”, Rector of the Order’s International Academy.
He founded the review “Peregrinationes” and sponsored many publications. He is the President of many humanitarian and cultural foundations. He has been long committed in the diffusion of the cult of Blessed Gérard Tonque.
Count Don Carlo Marullo di Condojanni was awarded many decorations for the merits gained during the periods of the offices held.
