Today, this Thursday January 4, 2007, took place at the Presidential Palace in Belgrade, Serbia, an official ceremony during which H.E. Mrs. Anka Vojvodić, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Montenegro to Serbia, presented her letters of credence to the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Boris Tadić.

Subsequently, the newly-appointed Montenegrin Ambassador had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Vuk Drašković, Serbian Minister for Foreign Affairs. “I believe Ambassador Vojvodić will contribute by her work to the further development of good and brotherly relations between Serbia and Montenegro,” said the Foreign Minister.

Former judge to the Municipal Court in Bar, H.E. Ambassador Vojvodić, 55, who was born in Belgrade, is the first Ambassador of Montenegro to Serbia since the establishment of diplomatic relations on June 22, 2006, after Montenegro declared independence on June 3rd, following the May 21 referendum in which 55.5% of Montenegrins voted for separation from Serbia. Montenegro independence has since been recognised by the European Union, the United States, Russia, China and many other countries.
Serbia has not yet chosen its ambassador to Podgorica; Serbian Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Vojislav Koštunica said “the country will appoint an ambassador to Montenegro after the parliamentary elections in Serbia” scheduled for January 21, 2007.
