“Responsible Towards Environment”
Effective from today, Sunday June 15, 2008, each foreign vehicle entering Montenegro has to pay an Eco-Tax. Fees range from €10 (category M1) to €150 (category N3) depending on the type and power of the vehicle.
This Eco-Tax has been introduced by the Government of Montenegro based on the obligations arising from the implementation of multilateral agreements in the field of environmental protection, reforms in the context of the European Union accession process, as well as on the grounds of recommendations made by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), with the ultimate goal to allocate the gathered funds for the implementation of operative measures of preservation and improvement of natural potentials of the Ecological State of Montenegro.
Cars and mini-buses having at most eight seats in addition to driver’s seat pay €10, while trucks, buses and other larger vehicles which consume more fuel and create more air pollution that contributes to global warming and climate change, shell out between €30 and €150.
As proof of payment, drivers are issued an eco-sticker to display on their vehicles [1] that will allow them to enter Montenegro as many times as they like, in a one year period as from the delivery date, without having to remit the fee again. This eco-sticker can be bought at Montenegro’s border posts.
