Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic in visit to Brussels to meet Mr. Javier Solana

From the Council of the European Union, April 1st, 2008, Brussels, Belgium

Following last month’s visit of Montenegrin President Filip Vujanović, today, this Tuesday April 1st, 2007 at 01:00pm, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, H.E. Mr. Milo Đukanović, attended in Brussels, Belgium a working lunch on the invitation of Mr. Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).

This meeting was the occasion for Prime Minister Đukanović and Mr. Solana to discuss the latest developments in the Republic of Montenegro, Montenegro-EU bilateral relations, and questions of regional co-operation.

During the joint press conference that followed, High Representative for CFSP Mr. Solana said “the relationships between Montenegro and the EU are very good”, hoping that after the signing of the SAA agreement in last January, presently in course of implemention in Montenegro, reforms that are still needed will be done in the same rhythm they have been done in the past. “I would like to say that we are very pleased about how things are going in Montenegro, and we hope very much they continue like that.”

On the regional aspect, Mr. Solana reiterated his point of view that “Montenegro has a key-role to play in the Western Balkan region, and we hope that it will continue to do so. I have no doubt that this will be the case.”
