Montenegro and the Kingdom of Bahrain established formal diplomatic relations at an ambassadorial level
Continuing expanding its diplomatic network in the Middle East, today, this Wednesday September 2nd, 2009, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, H.E. Mr. Milan Roćen, announced to have exchanged letters with his Bahraini counterpart, H.E. Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al-Khalifa, constituting an agreement on the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between Montenegro and the Kingdom of Bahrain at an ambassadorial level. Bahrain recognised Montenegro’s independence on June 18, 2006.
In the region, Montenegro already maintains diplomatic relations with Syria (since October 30, 2008), the United Arab Emirates (UAE ; since April 4, 2008) where a resident embassy is to be opened in the near future, Eritrea (since March 18, 2008), Oman (since April 11, 2007), Egypt (since September 27, 2006), Palestine (since August 1st, 2006), Iran (since July 28, 2006), Israel (since July 12, 2006) and Qatar (since November 16, 2006). Montenegro’s interests are represented in Lebanon by an Honorary Consul-General, Mr. Marwan Paul Kebbe.
The final protocol will be signed between the two Ministers in margin of the 64th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), during Minister Roćen’s travel to New York City, N.Y., USA (September 20-26, 2009).
